Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine supports national, regional, and local authorities and civil society in emergency response, recovery, and crisis management. As the lead UN agency for mine action, UNDP supports the Government in establishing a nationally led mine action system to address explosive ordnance contamination. The project covers governance, coordination, risk reduction, and recovery planning, aiming to restore safe access to land and enable community rebuilding.
Job Purpose
The Communications Coordinator will support the UNDP Mine Action Project in Ukraine by developing and implementing impactful communication strategies. This role is crucial for showcasing programme achievements, engaging affected communities, and reinforcing the national mine action narrative within the broader recovery and development agenda. The coordinator will ensure that the project's efforts are visible, understood, and supported by maintaining donor confidence, informing the public, strengthening stakeholder understanding, and highlighting the impact of mine action on people's lives and Ukraine's recovery. The position also promotes UNDP's mandate as a gender-responsive organization.
Responsibilities
Manage communication streams and public outreach for the Mine Action Project, including media engagements, event coordination, and preparing communication materials. Develop, edit, and disseminate high-quality communication products such as website content, social media posts, publications, factsheets, and infographics. Ensure compliance with UNDP branding and donor visibility requirements, and maintain a library of communication assets. Build and maintain relationships with government counterparts, stakeholders, partners, donors, and media. Support the mainstreaming of gender equality in communications and promote a safe, inclusive work environment. Act as deputy to the Strategic Communications Analyst when required.
Work Experience
Master's degree holders are not required to have professional work experience. Bachelor's degree holders must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in public relations and/or communications at the national or international level. Desirable experience includes managing multiple projects, multimedia production, graphic design tools, and prior work in international organizations or media.
