Organizational Context
UNDP Sri Lanka, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Administration, is implementing a project to scale up and sustain low-carbon municipal solid waste management. This initiative addresses urban waste challenges and aligns with national climate commitments. The Field Associate role supports local authorities in adopting integrated waste management solutions and developing provincial waste management plans.
Job Purpose
The Field Associate will play a critical role in supporting the "Scale-up and Sustain Low-Carbon Municipal Solid Waste Management and Resource Recovery in Sri Lanka" project. This involves maintaining continuous engagement with local authorities and key stakeholders to facilitate field-level implementation and project monitoring. The role contributes to strengthening local capacities for integrated, low-carbon waste management solutions, supporting the development of provincial waste management master plans, and initiating priority actions. The position is under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project's environmental and climate initiatives within Sri Lanka.
Responsibilities
Support effective project planning and implementation through periodic engagement with local authorities, community groups, and stakeholders for coordination and information flow. Assist in data collection, stakeholder consultations, and workshops for provincial waste management plan preparation and capacity building. Support field assessments, feasibility studies, and the establishment and monitoring of waste management pilot sites. Provide field observations and inputs for project documentation, progress reports, and validation processes. Facilitate knowledge building, sharing, and capacity building by coordinating field logistics, missions, meetings, and trainings. Maintain records, inventories, and related administrative documentation. Perform other duties as required for the efficient functioning of the office and the organization.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of experience supporting project management or related fields is required with secondary education. This requirement is reduced to 3 years with a bachelor's degree. Experience with MS Office applications, database management, and office technology is necessary. Experience in building and maintaining partnerships with government, development partners, and the private sector is also required.
