Job Purpose
The principal objective of this internship is to enhance the international visibility of Côte d'Ivoire's development achievements and UNDP's role in them. The Communications Intern will identify, write, and pitch compelling development stories and ideas to international media platforms. This involves developing op-eds, producing high-quality website and social media content, and strengthening relationships with journalists and editors to ensure UNDP's work resonates with global audiences and contributes to policy debates.
Responsibilities
The intern will proactively identify newsworthy stories and human-interest angles from UNDP Côte d'Ivoire's work, transforming them into compelling narratives for international audiences. Responsibilities include researching and pitching stories to media outlets, drafting op-eds and thought-leadership pieces, and producing high-quality English-language editorial content for the UNDP website and social media. The role involves conducting interviews, supporting media outreach and follow-up, tracking media engagement, and contributing to multimedia storytelling efforts. Building and maintaining relationships with national, African, and international media is also a key duty.
Work Experience
Required experience includes excellent journalistic writing and editing skills, the ability to write compellingly in English, strong research capabilities, and an understanding of digital and social media. Desirable experience includes previous media internships, writing articles or features, pitching stories to journalists, familiarity with international media and African affairs, and multimedia storytelling skills.
Skills
Excellent written and spoken English proficiency is required. Strong journalistic instinct, editorial judgment, exceptional writing, initiative, creativity, results orientation, professionalism, and collaboration skills are essential. Knowledge of French is strongly preferred.
