The Country Office integrates gender equality and Gender, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) approaches into its programming, particularly within the Environment and Energy portfolio. This role supports the integration of these principles into new initiatives and funding opportunities, aligning with corporate standards and donor requirements like the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
Job Purpose
The Gender Associate role is crucial for strengthening the technical capacity of UNDP Ecuador to embed gender equality and GEDSI principles into the design of new initiatives and funding opportunities. The primary focus is on the Environment and Energy portfolio, especially projects funded by GEF. The position supports the identification, formulation, and quality assurance of these initiatives, ensuring substantive integration of gender equality and inclusion. This involves conducting analyses, developing action plans, facilitating participatory consultations, and ensuring that gender and GEDSI considerations are reflected in project documents, budgets, and results frameworks. The role also supports other programmatic areas as needed, contributing to the overall strengthening of the Country Office's pipeline and programming.
Responsibilities
The Gender Associate provides specialized technical support to integrate gender equality and GEDSI into the identification, formulation, and monitoring of UNDP Ecuador programs and projects, with a focus on the Environment and Energy portfolio and GEF-funded initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
Supporting the conceptualization and quality assurance of new initiatives by reviewing donor requirements, identifying gaps and risks, and preparing technical inputs for project documents. This involves ensuring substantive integration of gender equality and inclusion into problem analysis, theory of change, and results frameworks.
Developing gender analyses and Gender Action Plans, as well as GEDSI measures, by collecting and analyzing primary and secondary data, conducting participatory consultations, and identifying inequalities and risks. These findings are translated into actionable plans and integrated into project designs.
Providing technical support and follow-up for mainstreaming gender and GEDSI across the Environment and Energy portfolio and other programmatic areas. This includes reviewing and updating Gender Action Plans, supporting project implementation, and ensuring coherence with donor commitments.
Supporting knowledge creation and capacity development by participating in training, organizing information sessions, and disseminating lessons learned. The role also involves maintaining organized records and developing a work plan to track progress and report on activities.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of six years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or three years with a university degree. Experience should be in gender equality, applied social research, GEDSI, or program/project design and formulation. Demonstrable experience in conducting gender analyses, participatory consultations, and integrating gender/GEDSI into development projects is essential.
Skills
Proven experience in conducting gender analyses and GEDSI assessments. Demonstrated ability in data collection and analysis (primary/secondary, qualitative/quantitative). Experience in development program/project design, including theories of change and results frameworks. Skills in organizing participatory consultations with diverse groups. Strong report writing capabilities in Spanish. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK).
