Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Yemen, through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), supports community-based initiatives to address environmental challenges. Yemen faces significant biodiversity threats due to conflict, economic collapse, and weak governance. The SGP aims to deliver global environmental benefits by empowering local communities and organizations to implement sustainable livelihood projects.

Job Purpose

The National Project Coordinator will oversee the implementation of the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) in Yemen. This role involves managing the SGP Country Programme team, developing and managing the grant portfolio, and ensuring effective resource utilization. The coordinator will work to align SGP activities with national environmental priorities and contribute to sustainable development goals. Key responsibilities include supervising staff, managing budgets, monitoring project progress, fostering partnerships, and facilitating knowledge sharing to maximize the impact of community-based environmental initiatives.

Responsibilities

Oversee the SGP Country Programme team, including supervision, guidance, and performance management. Develop and implement annual work plans and budgets, ensuring strategic initiatives and co-financing targets are met. Manage the grant portfolio by ensuring quality control, monitoring implementation progress, and providing technical support to grantees. Organize workshops and facilitate project development sessions for civil society organizations. Coordinate with the National Steering Committee for project review and approval. Foster linkages between SGP projects and other GEF initiatives and development partners. Mobilize resources and develop partnerships with government, donors, and other stakeholders. Document and disseminate lessons learned, best practices, and facilitate knowledge exchange among grantees and partners. Ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of programme results and impacts.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience (with a Master's degree) or four years (with a Bachelor's degree) in managing environment or natural resource management projects at the national or local level is required. Experience with computer software and web-based management systems is also necessary.
