Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Projects Management Office in Nicosia, Cyprus, supports the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP). This role is within the CMP Greek Cypriot Member’s Office, reporting to the UNDP Project Analyst and collaborating with CMP and UNDP teams. Job Purpose
The Data Collection Clerk supports the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) project, managed by UNDP Cyprus. The primary purpose of this role is to assist in the crucial work of recovering, identifying, and returning the remains of individuals who went missing during Cyprus's inter-communal conflicts. This involves meticulous data collection, research, and database management to contribute to closing a painful chapter in the island's history, restoring trust, and fostering reconciliation between communities. The role directly supports the project's objective of providing answers and closure to the families of missing persons.
Responsibilities
The Data Collection Clerk will support research activities by collecting, analyzing, and reporting information on missing persons. This includes conducting interviews with witnesses, researching archives, newspapers, and social media, and identifying potential burial sites. The role involves updating and maintaining the CMP database with all relevant information and providing updates on project activities and milestones. The incumbent will participate in meetings with families of missing persons, adhering to strict data protection standards. Additionally, the clerk will collaborate with the archaeological team during excavations, conduct site visits, and communicate with geneticists regarding ongoing analyses. The position also entails supporting knowledge-building and sharing within the office and performing other duties as required for efficient office functioning.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience in data collection is required, alongside experience in research, including collecting and analyzing information from various sources. Experience in conducting sensitive interviews, critically evaluating information, and maintaining databases is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is also necessary. Experience in forensic investigation, information analysis, or work related to missing persons is considered an asset.
