Job Purpose
The SOC Clerk is responsible for managing the Radio station and its equipment, handling incoming and outgoing security communications. This role ensures the effective and efficient operation of the office by maintaining communication equipment and facilitating timely activities. The position supports UN System agencies by managing telecommunications, dispatching security information, and maintaining daily contact with other offices and field radio rooms. The role also involves tracking official field missions, managing calls discreetly, and sending/receiving service-related messages, all while ensuring the security of UN personnel and assets.
Responsibilities
The SOC Clerk's responsibilities include providing communication support to UN System agencies by managing the UN telecommunications room, dispatching security information, and maintaining regular radio contact with other offices. The role involves serving as a communication relay for vehicles in dead zones and tracking official field missions hourly or semi-hourly. Responsibilities also extend to managing incoming/outgoing calls and messages discreetly, contacting security forces for emergencies, and reporting security situations to the Field Security Assistant/Security Advisor. Additionally, the role requires maintaining technical equipment, assisting with radio installation, keeping call logs and equipment inventories, and managing the transfer of communication equipment for traceability. The position also involves supporting knowledge sharing and performing other duties as necessary for efficient office operations.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in communication and telecommunications is required. Experience with computers, office software (MS Word, Excel), databases, and web-based management systems like ERP is necessary. Experience using HF and VHF radios is also required.
