NPSA-8
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been active in India since 1951, focusing on poverty eradication, reducing inequalities, strengthening governance, enhancing resilience, and promoting sustainable development. The current Country Programme (2023-2027) emphasizes strong institutions, enhanced economic opportunities, and climate-smart solutions, with a cross-cutting focus on gender equality and social inclusion. This role supports the Plastic Waste Management Programme, aiming to minimize plastic pollution impacts and improve waste management practices.
Job Purpose
The Project Analyst, Gender and Social Inclusion, plays a crucial role in integrating gender equality and social inclusion principles across UNDP's waste, chemicals, and circular economy initiatives in India. The primary purpose is to enhance the livelihoods, safety, and access to social protection for informal waste workers, particularly women. This involves collaborating with government, private sector, and civil society partners to ensure inclusive programme design, implementation, and monitoring. The role contributes to strengthening programme delivery by identifying and addressing inclusion gaps, developing context-specific solutions, and building on lessons learned from ongoing projects. Ultimately, the position supports UNDP's commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring that development efforts reach the most vulnerable and marginalized communities.
Responsibilities
The Project Analyst will lead the integration of Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) across project design, planning, and implementation, utilizing relevant frameworks and tools. This includes coordinating and overseeing social inclusion interventions for informal waste workers, focusing on improving access to social protection, occupational safety, financial inclusion, and sustainable livelihoods. The role involves analyzing project components and field challenges to identify inclusion gaps, especially for women, and developing solutions to strengthen programme delivery in circular economy and chemicals waste management. Additionally, the analyst will provide technical backstopping and coordination support across project locations, facilitate issue resolution, and establish strategic partnerships with government, local bodies, CSOs, and the private sector. Responsibilities also include supporting the development of GESI-responsive indicators, contributing to monitoring and evaluation, compiling and analyzing data for insights, preparing project reports, and providing technical input for policy analysis and capacity-building initiatives.
Work Experience
A Master's degree holder in a relevant field is not required to have professional work experience. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in gender equality, social inclusion, livelihoods, informal sector integration, social protection, or related development programs, with proven ability to coordinate with government agencies, civil society, and community partners.
