Organizational Context

The UNDP project Sinergia+ aims to strengthen CONANP's management processes for effective conservation, institutional planning, and strategic alliances. This role contributes to Result 5, focusing on the conservation and recovery of endangered species, specifically marine mammals within protected natural areas in Mexico.

Job Purpose

The Project Coordinator will lead the design, execution, and evaluation of applied scientific research and monitoring for the sustainable management of marine mammal resources. This involves ensuring the publication and dissemination of technical and scientific results, and coordinating with national and international institutions, scientific organizations, and civil society. The role aims to align marine mammal conservation efforts with social, legal, and international agreement requirements, contributing to balanced conservation and productive activities within Mexico's natural resource management framework.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the design, execution, and evaluation of applied scientific research for sustainable marine mammal resource management, ensuring result dissemination. Collaborate with diverse national and international institutions, scientific bodies, and civil society to align marine mammal work with social, legal, and international requirements. Support studies on integrated marine mammal population management to harmonize institutional arrangements for conservation and productive activities. Assist in marine ecosystem conservation studies to define biodiversity preservation priorities, considering social, economic, and cultural aspects. Aid CONANP in developing materials and participating in forums related to marine mammal conservation. Foster linkages with academic institutions for scientific research and collaboration on conservation projects. Integrate technical and scientific recommendations to support CONANP's decision-making on marine mammal conservation, sustainable management, and priority setting within protected areas.

Work Experience

For Bachelor's degree holders, 4 years of experience are required in environmental regulations, federal public administration, international agreements related to marine and coastal ecosystems, and scientific research projects for marine mammal conservation. Master's or Doctoral degree holders require 2 years of experience in these areas.

Skills

Technical report writing, multidisciplinary team collaboration, integrated marine mammal population management, marine ecosystem conservation studies, marine mammal conservation research programs, GPS usage, population data collection for marine mammals and habitats, knowledge of international agreements (IWC, IUCN, CITES, CBD).
