Job Purpose
This internship within the UNDP Sierra Leone Communications Unit aims to support the implementation of the country's communication strategy and annual plan. The intern will contribute to creating high-quality communication materials, utilizing various channels to enhance UNDP's visibility and promote Sustainable Development Goals. The role involves assisting in content development, synthesizing program information, preparing presentations, and supporting event coordination to foster relationships and raise awareness of UNDP's work and development results in Sierra Leone.
Responsibilities
Support the development and implementation of UNDP Sierra Leone’s Communications strategy, Annual Communications Plan, and Key Performance Indicators. Develop content for various communication materials including stories, op-eds, talking points, press releases, and social media posts. Assist in synthesizing information from UNDP programme teams and preparing presentations, decks, pitches, toolkits, and process documents. Maintain communication unit dashboards and meeting calendars. Support the curation and coordination of events, campaigns, and workshops to highlight UNDP's work and build stakeholder relationships. Create communication materials for events and aid in spreading awareness through relevant channels.
Work Experience
While not strictly required, desirable experience includes strong written and verbal communication skills in English, familiarity with social media and digital communication tools, creative thinking for communication strategies, basic knowledge of public relations, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to work collaboratively. Familiarity with development issues and UNDP's work is a plus.
Skills
Writing and editing skills, ability to analyze and synthesize complex information, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), familiarity with website management and social media platforms, experience creating multi-medium content, campaign and event planning/curation, strong oral and written communication, basic research and analysis, idea generation, and knowledge sharing.
