The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports high-risk countries in achieving development goals by reducing loss and strengthening resilience. The Crisis Resilience team focuses on risk-informed development, integrating disaster risk reduction (DRR) into national planning. This role supports the DRT's work on risk intelligence, digital technologies for DRR, early warning, and preparedness.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the UNDP's Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery for Building Resilience Team (DRT) by focusing on risk intelligence, digital and AI technologies for DRR, early warning, preparedness, and anticipation. The intern will contribute to research, knowledge management, and communication tasks, assisting in the development of the Risk Intelligence Service Line and the Preparedness Learning Pathway. The role aims to enhance UNDP's capacity to deliver risk-informed development and strengthen resilience in high-risk countries through innovative approaches and strategic partnerships.
Responsibilities
Support the research, design, and development of the DRT's Risk Intelligence Service Line, including digital and AI applications for DRR. Conduct research on emerging trends, methodologies, and best practices in risk intelligence, with a focus on AI and geospatial technologies. Develop knowledge products, concept notes, and communication materials. Map and analyze digital and AI-powered applications for DRR. Assist in developing strategic partnerships with technical institutions and research organizations. Support the continuous development of UNDP’s Preparedness Learning Pathway by researching and categorizing resources, maintaining online repositories, and assisting in the development of online courses and webinars. Provide support for other DRT portfolio tasks, including research, analysis, and communication on topics like urban resilience and financing for DRR.
Work Experience
Excellent communication skills with the ability to write clearly and concisely. Good command of information and communication technology (ICT).
Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of AI applications (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT), collaborative tools (e.g., MURAL, Zoom), and design applications (e.g., Canva). Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and computer proficiency. Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
