Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Indonesia is working with the government to integrate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into national plans. The Forest Agriculture and Sustainable Trade (FAST) Project, funded by the UK FCDO, aims to transform Indonesia's palm oil and cocoa sectors by promoting sustainable land use, certification, and supply chain transparency. This role supports the market-facing pillar of the FAST Project.
Job Purpose
The Sustainable Trade and Market Partnerships Analyst will support the FAST Project's Output 2, focusing on market transformation for Indonesian commodities like palm oil and cocoa. This involves strengthening engagement with regulators, private sector actors, and development partners to navigate complex international sustainability requirements and evolving due diligence frameworks. The role is crucial for ensuring policy and governance reforms translate into improved market access, international recognition, and sustainable trade opportunities. The analyst will lead technical efforts to foster strategic partnerships, facilitate market dialogues, promote sustainable practices, and oversee the successful implementation of Output 2 deliverables, contributing to the project's overall targets and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
Responsibilities
Provide technical advisory and coordination for strategies, studies, and initiatives related to sustainable trade, market access, certification recognition, and international partnerships under Output 2. Coordinate market transformation activities with government agencies, private sector, international buyers, and certification bodies to enhance commodity competitiveness. Develop recommendations and strategic partnerships for improved market recognition and sustainable sourcing, addressing international trade and due diligence requirements. Oversee the implementation of Output 2 activities, ensuring timely delivery and quality assurance. Offer technical support on emerging international market requirements like EUDR and UK Forest Risk Commodities Regulation, conducting assessments and developing policy advice. Facilitate engagement with international buyers, private sector, and development partners to promote sustainable commodity markets and build supportive partnerships. Organize business dialogues, trade missions, and multi-stakeholder engagements. Support trade dialogues, policy advocacy, and partnership development strategies. Assist the Project Management Unit in planning, coordinating, and implementing project activities, including reporting and governance support. Ensure gender mainstreaming and inclusivity across project interventions, and lead in generating knowledge products.
Work Experience
While a Master's degree holder may not require prior professional experience, a Bachelor's degree requires a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in programme/project management. Desired experience includes developing strategies for sustainable trade/market access, working within the palm oil/cocoa sectors in Indonesia, understanding smallholder farmer dynamics, and experience with international sustainability standards or due diligence regulations.
