Effective Governance
Gender Analyst (open To Internal & External Applicants)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Yemen is implementing the Resilient Economies and Sustainable Livelihood for Empowerment (RESOLVE) project, integrated with LoGABD and SANABEL projects. This initiative operates within a severe humanitarian crisis context, focusing on transitioning from short-term aid to sustainable development. The project aims to enhance food security, promote economic development, and strengthen livelihoods through an integrated approach.
Job Purpose
The Gender Analyst will provide technical leadership and advisory support to ensure gender equality, women's empowerment, and social inclusion are effectively mainstreamed across the Integrated Resilience and Governance Programme in Yemen and its associated portfolio projects (RESOLVE, LoG4ABD, SANABEL). This role is crucial for embedding gender-responsive approaches throughout project design, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and knowledge management. The analyst will advise on interventions in areas such as agricultural support, value chain development, microfinance, local governance, and private sector engagement, ensuring they address the specific barriers and needs of vulnerable groups, including women, youth, IDPs, and persons with disabilities. The ultimate goal is to drive measurable progress toward gender equality outcomes within Yemen's challenging operating environment.
Responsibilities
The Gender Analyst will lead the integration of gender equality and women's empowerment across all project components, providing technical guidance on gender-sensitive programming. This includes reviewing project documents, work plans, and tools to ensure effective gender and social inclusion considerations. The role involves developing and implementing systems for collecting and analyzing sex-, age-, and disability-disaggregated data, and integrating gender indicators into monitoring and evaluation frameworks. The analyst will conduct gender analyses and audits, and ensure reports reflect gender-related achievements and challenges. Additionally, the position requires designing and delivering capacity-building programs on gender mainstreaming for staff and stakeholders, developing practical tools, and supporting partners in institutionalizing gender-sensitive mechanisms. Establishing strategic partnerships, coordinating with gender focal points, and promoting advocacy for gender equality and women's economic empowerment are also key responsibilities. The role includes knowledge management, documenting best practices, and ensuring compliance with UNDP's Gender Equality Strategy and other relevant policies.
Work Experience
The role requires experience in gender mainstreaming, women's empowerment, and social inclusion programming. Experience in developing and implementing gender-sensitive approaches within development projects, particularly in complex humanitarian or post-conflict settings, is essential.
