The SHAMSI Palestine initiative, a national renewable energy and municipal finance platform, aims to empower Local Government Units (LGUs) to develop and own solar energy projects, fostering energy security and financial sustainability.
Job Purpose
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the effective coordination and implementation of the SHAMSI Palestine project, a national renewable energy and municipal finance platform. This role is crucial in enabling Palestinian Local Government Units (LGUs) to develop, own, and operate solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems. The purpose is to transform LGUs into active energy investors, reduce their electricity expenditures, enhance financial sustainability, and support national renewable energy targets. The coordinator will ensure project activities align with UNDP's mandate and the Palestinian national development plans, contributing to transformative resilience and sustainable natural resource management within the region. This position plays a key part in facilitating access to grant and soft loans for LGUs to implement their solar energy initiatives.
Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator will manage and monitor project plans, activities, and budgets, conducting regular field visits to track progress and identify challenges. This includes monitoring project risks and issues, suggesting corrective actions, and ensuring gender mainstreaming in all project activities. The role involves coordinating HACT procedures and ensuring compliance with UNDP rules and regulations. Stakeholder engagement is key, requiring coordination of meetings with government officials, LGUs, the private sector, NGOs, and local communities, with a focus on engaging women and youth. The coordinator will support implementing partners' capacity building and foster interlinkages. Responsibilities also include contributing to reporting, monitoring, evaluation, and learning by preparing progress reports, documenting lessons learned, and monitoring project indicators. Communication support for developing visibility materials and ensuring donor branding requirements are met is also essential.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of experience is required with a High School diploma, or 4 years with a bachelor's degree. Experience should be in coordinating or managing renewable energy or socioeconomic development projects. Proven experience in dealing with multilateral donors, local government units, and the private sector is essential. Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation tools is also required.
