Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports integrated programmatic, policy, and financing solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Within the Governance, Rule of Law, and Peacebuilding (GRP) Hub, the SDG Local Action project focuses on empowering local governments. This role supports the Mayors Challenge initiative in As-Salt, Jordan, aiming to establish a heritage building restoration training center to create local employment and preserve cultural heritage.

Job Purpose

The Project Coordinator will support the implementation of the Mayors Challenge in As-Salt, Jordan, a project focused on establishing a heritage building restoration training center. This initiative aims to equip local residents with restoration skills, preserve the city's rich architectural heritage, and create local and regional job opportunities. The role involves transforming urban heritage into a sustainable economic, social, and cultural engine by providing training, legal, financial, and technical support to building owners, attracting tourism, and fostering investment. The coordinator will ensure the project's success in revitalizing As-Salt's heritage and contributing to SDG implementation at the local level.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the planning and implementation of the Mayors Challenge project in As-Salt City, ensuring alignment with objectives, donor requirements, and municipal priorities. Manage project delivery, develop strategies for decision-making and sustainability, and serve as the primary liaison with the As-Salt Municipality. Provide technical guidance for heritage conservation interventions, manage procurement processes, and supervise service providers. Oversee budget management, financial compliance, and performance monitoring. Lead multidisciplinary teams, including municipal staff and contractors. Manage relationships with local and international stakeholders, including government entities, civil society, and development partners. Facilitate institutional coordination, organize governance meetings, and promote knowledge transfer and capacity building within the municipality. Contribute to global knowledge sharing by preparing reports, knowledge products, and policy briefs on project achievements and lessons learned.

Work Experience

Applicants with a Master's degree require no professional experience. Those with a Bachelor's degree need a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in heritage conservation, including restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings and urban sites. Desired experience includes working with local governments, managing donor-funded projects, and familiarity with Jordan's regulatory frameworks.
