Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Colombia works to support the government's transition towards peace and sustainable development. The Sustainable Development Cluster focuses on environmentally sustainable economic and social progress, improving the lives of vulnerable populations. This role is within a project aimed at increasing the income of small rural farmers by strengthening value chains in specific regions, contributing to climate change adaptation and rural economic development.

Job Purpose

The Technical Assistant for Rural Value Chains will provide technical support to organizations and families participating in a project focused on strengthening climate-resilient value chains for crops like cacao, plantain, yam, cassava, and corn. The role aims to increase productive capacities, enhance climate change adaptation, improve commercialization, and foster associativity among 40 organizations and 2,400 small rural farmers. This involves promoting agricultural productivity, facilitating access to clean seeds and agricultural finance, disseminating climate-resilient technologies, improving post-harvest skills, and developing efficient marketing and collective action processes to ensure higher household incomes.

Responsibilities

Provide general technical support for the implementation of climate-resilient value chain strategies, including gender and commercialization approaches. Assist the Project Coordinator with various project activities such as training, workshops, technical visits, stakeholder consultations, and organizing exchange tours. Support the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices and climate change adaptation/mitigation measures. Organize meetings with grassroots organizations and producers, and help implement training and technical assistance for value chain strengthening, focusing on environmental sustainability. Monitor technical procedures, climate change management, and natural resource restoration for producer organizations. Assist in the implementation and technical follow-up of sub-grant agreements with producer organizations. Maintain project documentation and reports, control the use of non-fungible equipment, and communicate project updates to field technicians. Draft correspondence, manage communications, and provide operational and administrative support according to UNDP procedures. Support information collection and systematization for reporting, monitor project indicators, document lessons learned, and assist in preparing technical documents and training materials.

Work Experience

A minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience with international institutions/organizations is required if holding a Secondary Education diploma. This experience should focus on rural development projects, particularly in agricultural value chains, and providing technical assistance to small-scale producers, especially in plantain cultivation. If holding a Bachelor's degree, 1 year of relevant experience is sufficient.
