Communications Officer
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Myanmar provides area-based socio-economic assistance to vulnerable and crisis-affected communities. This role supports integrated interventions focused on recovery, resilience, social cohesion, livelihoods, and climate resilience. The Communications Officer will be part of the UNDP Myanmar team, contributing to programme visibility and effective communication strategies.
Job Purpose
The Communications Officer will support UNDP Myanmar's communications, digital media, visibility, and content development efforts across its programme portfolio. This role is crucial for promoting inclusive representation and visibility of underrepresented groups, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities, within programme communications and storytelling. The position aims to standardize and mainstream communication approaches across programmes and field locations, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging. The officer will work under the supervision of the Communications Expert, with a matrix reporting line to the Resident Representative, contributing to the overall communication strategy and execution for UNDP Myanmar's initiatives and enhancing its public engagement and donor relations through effective storytelling and content creation.
Responsibilities
The Communications Officer is responsible for supporting and implementing communication and visibility activities aligned with programme and corporate priorities. This includes drafting and editing various communication materials such as social media content, web stories, briefing materials, and presentations. The role involves managing social media platforms, including content scheduling, publishing, monitoring, and reporting on performance analytics. Additionally, the officer will develop engaging content tailored for different platforms and audiences, ensuring brand alignment and donor visibility standards. Responsibilities extend to updating and maintaining websites using Content Management Systems (CMS), coordinating with programme teams for timely product delivery, and supporting communications with field offices and UN agencies. The role also includes developing multimedia content, translating materials between Myanmar and English, participating in coordination meetings, and maintaining communication pipelines and trackers. A key aspect is producing content that promotes inclusive representation of diverse populations and supporting communications for events and campaigns, while integrating gender-responsive and socially inclusive approaches.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant experience in communications, media, public information, or knowledge management is required for candidates with a Master's degree, or four years for those with a Bachelor's degree. Experience in copywriting, content development for digital platforms, social media management, and analytics is essential. Proficiency with design tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, CMS, and digital communication platforms is also necessary. Experience in multilingual communications, particularly between Myanmar and English, and within international development or humanitarian contexts is highly desirable.
