Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Armenia is implementing two key projects focused on climate change transparency and reporting under the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement. The "Development of the First Biennial Transparency Report" project and the "Strengthening the National Framework for Climate Transparency" project aim to enhance Armenia's capacity to meet its climate obligations. This Project Associate role supports these initiatives within the Nature, Climate, and Energy department.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate will provide comprehensive support to the UNDP-GEF climate transparency projects in Armenia, ensuring effective planning, implementation, and monitoring. This role is crucial for assisting Armenia in fulfilling its obligations under the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement by strengthening institutional and technical capacities for climate change reporting. The associate will contribute to improving greenhouse gas inventories, tracking progress on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and reporting on climate change impacts and adaptation. By supporting project activities, partnerships, and knowledge sharing, the role directly contributes to mainstreaming climate change considerations into national policies and fostering enabling conditions for sustainable development strategies through capacity building for transparency.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate will support effective project planning and implementation by compiling data, drafting work plans and budgets, and ensuring compliance with UNDP operational policies. This includes providing administrative and logistical support for project delivery, organizing events, managing procurement, and maintaining records. The role also involves supporting partnerships by establishing and maintaining contacts with stakeholders, ensuring regular communication, and contributing to resource mobilization efforts. Furthermore, the associate will support monitoring, evaluation, and reporting by assisting in the implementation of the monitoring system, collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and managing project risks and expenditures. Finally, the role will contribute to knowledge building and sharing by participating in training, disseminating project knowledge, and supporting capacity-building activities for staff and partners.
Work Experience
A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible administrative or project experience is required with a secondary education. This requirement is reduced to 3 years if the candidate holds a bachelor's degree. Experience with computers, office software (MS Word, Excel), and web-based management systems is necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Word and Excel, advanced spreadsheet and database skills, digital literacy, strong communication abilities, monitoring and evaluation skills, project management knowledge, and experience with procurement procedures are essential. The role also requires the ability to work with evidence and data, manage customer satisfaction, and support budget management.
