Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for providing reliable and safe transportation services for UNDP operations and programme staff, consultants, experts, and visiting UN personnel. This role ensures the efficient movement of people and goods, including mail and documents, and supports airport meet-and-greets. The Driver is expected to maintain the assigned vehicle, adhere to all road safety regulations, and manage vehicle logs accurately. The position requires a high degree of responsibility, integrity, and a client-oriented approach, contributing to the smooth functioning of UNDP's development activities in The Gambia.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include ensuring the provision of reliable and secure driving services for authorized personnel and the transport of mail, documents, and other items. The Driver will meet official personnel and visitors at the airport, assisting with visa and customs formalities when required. This role involves attending all relevant road safety training and promptly reporting any safety incidents. Additionally, the Driver is responsible for the proper use and day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including performing minor repairs, arranging for major repairs, and conducting daily checks of essential components. Maintaining accurate vehicle logs and ensuring the availability of necessary vehicle documents and supplies are also critical duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant work experience as a driver is required. This experience should include a proven safe driving record and demonstrated skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance.
