Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office in Brazil partners with government and civil society to foster a sustainable and inclusive society. It supports democratic institutions, governance, poverty reduction, and addresses climate change. The Environmentally Sustainable Development team, within the Programme Team, drives innovation and provides policy advice in this area, working collaboratively across UNDP's work streams.
Job Purpose
The Programme Analyst manages a portfolio within the Environmentally Sustainable Development Unit, contributing to UNDP's mission in Brazil. This role involves analyzing socio-economic and political trends, formulating, managing, and evaluating programme activities, and providing expert policy advice. The Analyst applies solution-oriented approaches, supervises staff, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful programme implementation and alignment with UNDP's strategic priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals. The position is key to delivering integrated development solutions and strengthening UNDP's role as a knowledge frontier organization.
Responsibilities
Ensures the implementation of programme strategies through thorough analysis of the country's situation and preparation of key corporate documents. Manages the CO programme within the assigned specialization, focusing on quality control from formulation to implementation, including project design, initiation, oversight, and closure. Supports the creation of strategic partnerships and resource mobilization by analyzing donor information and identifying cooperation opportunities. Provides high-quality advisory services to the government and facilitates knowledge building by synthesizing best practices and contributing to knowledge networks. Coordinates programme planning and implementation, including budget management, monitoring execution, and preparing financial reports, ensuring alignment with UNDP rules and procedures.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (with a Master's degree) or 4 years (with a Bachelor's degree) is required. This experience should be at the national or international level, focusing on management advisory services for environmental issues and hands-on experience in designing, monitoring, and evaluating sustainable development projects in Brazil, preferably in environment or climate change.
