Organizational Context
UNDP Bhutan, in partnership with Haa Dzongkhag Administration, is developing the Haa Dzongkhag Development Strategy. This strategy aims to enhance local economic development, public service delivery, community resilience, and inclusive growth, aligning with Bhutan's national priorities. The role is situated within this initiative, providing crucial support to the strategy development process.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the development of the Haa Dzongkhag Development Strategy, a critical initiative by UNDP Bhutan and the Haa Dzongkhag Administration. The role's purpose is to provide comprehensive assistance in research, data collection, stakeholder engagement, documentation, and analysis. By contributing to these areas, the intern will help create a clear, evidence-based, and actionable strategy that addresses local priorities and emerging economic opportunities. This role is essential for harnessing Haa Dzongkhag's potential for inclusive and sustainable development, ensuring the strategy effectively reflects community needs and national objectives.
Responsibilities
The intern will provide programmatic, coordination, research, documentation, and administrative support for the Haa Dzongkhag Development Strategy. Key duties include collecting and reviewing data, reports, and policies; conducting secondary research on economic development, tourism, and social inclusion; mapping development opportunities, challenges, and stakeholders; and documenting local economic potential. The role involves supporting stakeholder consultations, preparing meeting notes and reports, and assisting in the analysis of inputs to consolidate strategy priorities. Additionally, the intern will help develop presentation materials, draft strategy sections, compile information on sustainable financing, identify potential initiatives, and provide logistical and administrative support for all related activities.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is required for this internship. However, familiarity with Bhutan’s local governance system, Dzongkhag planning processes, or rural development issues is considered an asset.
Skills
Key skills include strong research, analytical, and documentation abilities; capacity to gather, organize, and synthesize information; good writing and communication skills; basic data analysis and presentation capabilities; and digital literacy with tools like Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online meeting platforms. Interpersonal skills, organizational skills, cultural sensitivity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn are also important.
