Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Central African Republic (CAR) supports the government's strategy to protect its exceptional forest heritage and combat poverty. The Environment, Energy, and Climate Change Unit (EE&CC) promotes sustainable development, renewable energy, and forest management. This role is within the "PSE Bangui and its peripheries" project, funded by CAFI, aiming to implement Payments for Environmental Services (PES) to benefit local communities.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate will contribute operationally to the "PSE Bangui and its peripheries" project, which aims to implement Payments for Environmental Services (PES) in the Central African Republic. This project, supported by CAFI, seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of a PES system by providing financial incentives to communities adopting sustainable land and forest management practices. The role is crucial for the successful execution of project activities, ensuring efficient resource management, accurate financial tracking, and effective communication within the project team and with partners. The Associate will support the project's operational and administrative functions, contributing to the overall goals of environmental conservation and poverty reduction in the CAR.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate is responsible for the effective management of project supplies and equipment, including tracking procurement, receiving, storing, and managing inventory. They will handle the project's administrative correspondence, preparing and drafting official communications, managing daily mail, and ensuring proper document filing. This role involves coordinating information flow within the project team and disseminating internal and external communications. A key responsibility is maintaining rigorous financial records, ensuring all transactions are documented, classified, and verifiable, and that supporting documents are stored according to organizational standards. The Associate will review, analyze, and validate project expenditures to ensure optimal and compliant use of funds, adhering strictly to project documents and financial policies. They will also prepare timely financial reports, projections, and analyses to support strategic decision-making and assist in preparing for internal and external audits by providing necessary data and documentation. Additionally, the role includes reviewing annual budgets, expenditure reports, and work plans, identifying significant deviations or financial risks, and consolidating financial progress reports from implementing partners.
Work Experience
Six years of relevant professional experience with a secondary school diploma, or three years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree. Experience in project management within a multilateral or international funding organization is preferred. Basic knowledge of organizational procedures and policies, IT proficiency, and experience with project management tools are essential.
