Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Guatemala supports national efforts towards sustainable, resilient, equitable, and inclusive development. The Democratic Governance portfolio promotes effective, inclusive, and transparent institutions, fostering meaningful citizen participation, especially among women, youth, and excluded populations. This role is within the "Weaving Leadership: Active Participation of Indigenous Women and Youth" project, focusing on strengthening civic and political capacities.
Job Purpose
The Associate for Citizen Participation, Youth, and Elections will coordinate and implement interventions in prioritized territories to foster civic-political education, strengthen youth leadership, and promote the active participation of indigenous youth in public affairs and democratic processes. This involves facilitating leadership schools, promoting intergenerational dialogue, and supporting observation platforms. The role is crucial for enhancing youth civic and political engagement, consolidating leadership, and contributing to democratic transformation and more inclusive electoral processes in Guatemala. The position reports to the Citizen Participation and Elections Sub-portfolio Coordinator.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include co-leading the design and implementation of civic education, leadership strengthening, and citizen participation processes for indigenous youth and women. This involves designing and delivering training programs, including leadership schools and workshops, with a focus on gender, interculturality, human rights, and electoral education. The role requires strengthening the civic, political, electoral, and communication capacities of indigenous youth to ensure their active, safe, and informed participation. Facilitating intergenerational dialogue, promoting democratic culture, and preventing political and digital violence are also key. The Associate will coordinate actions, establish strategic alliances with various stakeholders, and provide technical and methodological support to ensure effective project implementation with a focus on democratic governance, inclusion, and human rights.
Work Experience
A minimum of six years of relevant professional experience with a secondary education diploma, or three years with a Bachelor's degree, is required. Experience should focus on designing, facilitating, and implementing training programs related to citizen participation, youth leadership, civic-political education, and democratic strengthening. Experience working with indigenous women and youth, providing technical support to organizations, promoting citizen and electoral participation, and election observation is essential. Demonstrated experience in facilitating workshops and using participatory methodologies is also required.
