Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global leader in fighting poverty, inequality, and climate change. In Lesotho, UNDP partners with the European Union Delegation and the Government to implement the Renewable Lesotho programme. This initiative aims to foster a green economy by enhancing energy security, promoting access to clean energy, and improving the country's energy sector leadership. The Energy Analyst role supports Component 2, focusing on results-based financing for off-grid energy solutions.

Job Purpose

The Energy Analyst will be an integral part of the Result-Based Financing (RBF) funding facility management team, contributing to the successful implementation of the Renewable Lesotho programme. This role is crucial for promoting a more equitable and gender-transformative access to clean energy in Lesotho. The analyst will provide technical expertise, support project planning and implementation, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and ensure alignment with UNDP policies and procedures. The position aims to increase renewable energy generation capacity, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen the institutional capacity of Lesotho's energy sector, ultimately contributing to a green and resilient economy.

Responsibilities

The Energy Analyst is responsible for coordinating effective project planning and implementation, providing technical input, and ensuring work plans and budgets align with UNDP guidelines. This includes managing day-to-day activities, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely, high-quality output delivery within budget constraints. The role involves establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with implementing partners, government officials, businesses, NGOs, and beneficiaries to foster inclusive implementation. The analyst will also monitor project progress against targets, identify and manage emerging issues and risks, and support the development of monitoring and evaluation systems. Furthermore, the position facilitates knowledge building, sharing, and advocacy through organizing training, documenting best practices, and supporting awareness campaigns. The analyst will also contribute to resource mobilization efforts and project development.

Work Experience

For candidates with a Master's degree, no professional work experience is required. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience at the national or international level in off-grid renewable energy initiatives or development contexts.
