Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Office of Information Technology and Management (ITM) supports global ICT systems. The Service Automation Engineering Unit drives efficiency and innovation through automation solutions, aligning with UNDP's Digital Transformation agenda. This Development Analyst role, reporting to the Service Automation Engineering Specialist, is integral to implementing and maintaining these critical automation tools.
Job Purpose
The Development Analyst will support the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of software applications and automation tools within the UNDP's Office of Information Technology and Management. This role is crucial for enhancing automation solutions that drive efficiency and innovation, contributing directly to the organization's Digital Transformation agenda. The analyst will implement technical solutions using modern development practices and technologies, ensuring seamless integration with the enterprise IT ecosystem. By collaborating with cross-functional teams and contributing to agile development processes, the analyst will help deliver end-to-end digital solutions that address complex operational challenges and support UNDP's strategic goals.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, and deploying high-quality, scalable applications using Rust, Node.js, and Python. This involves architecting cloud-ready, containerized applications with Docker and implementing secure coding practices. The role requires monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving issues across applications and automation systems to ensure high availability and reliability. Proactive identification of performance optimization opportunities and translation of user feedback into system enhancements are also key. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to design digital solutions, participation in agile development, and support for knowledge sharing are essential. Additionally, the analyst will stay updated on emerging technologies, evaluate new tools, and contribute to technical documentation and best practices.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required for candidates with a Master's degree, or 4 years for those with a Bachelor's degree. Experience should preferably be in software development, automation, or related areas, ideally within an international or UN environment.
Skills
Required skills include proven experience in Rust, Node.js, and Python programming languages, hands-on experience with Docker containerization, and familiarity with the software development lifecycle, version control (e.g., Git), and CI/CD pipelines. Fluency in English is required. Desirable skills include experience with Microsoft and Google technology stacks, cloud platforms (Azure, GCP), and working in multicultural teams. Knowledge of Spanish and/or French is also desirable.
