The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports integrated solutions for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Governance, Rule of Law and Peacebuilding (GRP) Hub, through its Local Action unit, collaborates with local governments to deliver impactful solutions. This role supports the SDG Local Action project in Fez, Morocco, focusing on waste management and circular economy initiatives.
Job Purpose
This Project Coordinator role supports the implementation of the "Smart Management of the Cleanliness Sector, Integration of Waste Pickers into Cooperatives, and Promotion of the Circular Economy" project in Fez, Morocco, as part of the Mayors’ Challenge. The purpose is to address challenges in informal waste recovery, professionalize the sector, and integrate waste pickers into formal cooperatives. The role contributes to improving urban cleanliness, public health, and the dignity and livelihoods of waste pickers by fostering sustainable and inclusive waste management practices and promoting a circular economy.
Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator will oversee project activities in Fez, ensuring alignment with targets and results. This includes coordinating with local teams, strengthening capacity in project management, planning, budgeting, and procurement. The role involves leading strategic planning, managing procurement processes, and supervising service providers. Responsibilities also include monitoring project operations, staff performance, and budget, as well as preparing monitoring frameworks and operational reports. The coordinator will ensure effective communication with stakeholders, document methodologies, develop knowledge products, and prepare sustainability and exit strategies for the project.
Work Experience
Candidates with a Master's degree are not required to have professional experience. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree must have at least two years of relevant professional experience in environmental project management, with specific knowledge of the Moroccan regulatory context. Experience working with local governments and associations, and expertise in waste management and circular economy are desirable.

Proven leadership and project management skills. Proficiency in office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong understanding of local waste picker realities. Effective decision-making, communication, and data analysis abilities. Strategic and creative thinking. Knowledge of SDG integration and inclusive growth principles.
