The Nature, Climate, and Energy (NCE&W) hub within the Bureau of Policy and Programme Support promotes integrated approaches to global governance and nature-based solutions. This role is part of the GEF8-BFP program in Mauritania, focused on developing the country's first national biodiversity finance plan.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for the overall supervision and management of activities within Mauritania for the GEF8-BFP program, aiming to develop the country's first national biodiversity finance plan. The purpose is to ensure the effective implementation of the work plan and budget, fostering strong national teams and partnerships. The position requires high-level experience and substantial technical expertise to guide the integration of workstreams, ensure quality assurance of national products and processes, and coordinate the development of key deliverables such as policy reviews, expenditure assessments, and the final biodiversity finance plan. The role also involves stakeholder engagement and reporting to ensure alignment with global methodologies and national priorities.
Responsibilities
The Biodiversity Finance Coordinator will oversee project activities in Mauritania, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of the national biodiversity finance plan. Key responsibilities include managing consultants and national experts, developing and revising work plans and budgets in consultation with UNDP country office and global units, and organizing project workshops. The role involves liaising with key government ministries (Finance, Environment) to establish and convene a National Steering Committee and maintaining regular communication for report finalization. The Coordinator will ensure project processes align with national biodiversity planning and finance initiatives, manage risks, and facilitate team meetings. Technical leadership will be provided for data collection, analysis, and the development of key project deliverables, ensuring adherence to BIOFIN methodology and global standards. Reporting, monitoring, and evaluation of project progress at the national level are also crucial, including coordinating workshop reports and reviewing technical documents.
Work Experience
Significant professional experience in project management, particularly in environmental or biodiversity-related fields, is essential. Experience in financial analysis, policy review, and stakeholder engagement within a developing country context is highly desirable. Familiarity with international development frameworks and donor-funded projects is also beneficial.
