Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to significantly contribute to biodiversity conservation in Peru, a megadiverse nation crucial for global ecological balance and sustainable development. The Technical Associate will provide essential technical assistance, monitoring, and support to various projects and initiatives within the UNDP's Biodiversity Project Portfolio. This involves aiding the implementation of the EU-MINAM Roadmap on biodiversity credits and assisting state institutions in developing and executing international commitments, national strategies, and plans aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). The role is vital for advancing BIOFIN Peru's prioritized financial solutions, especially those benefiting vulnerable populations such as indigenous communities, women, and youth. It also encompasses programmatic and operational management, including procurement, communication, and knowledge sharing, alongside fostering institutional coordination and strategic partnerships. This ensures the effective achievement of biodiversity goals, supporting Peru's transition towards nature-aligned financial systems and addressing the urgent challenge of biodiversity loss.
Responsibilities
The Technical Associate will provide comprehensive technical assistance for the implementation of biodiversity initiatives, including supporting the EU-MINAM Roadmap on biodiversity credits and assisting state institutions in developing and implementing international commitments, national strategies, and plans. This includes specific support for projects involving vulnerable populations (indigenous peoples, women, youth) and aiding the implementation of BIOFIN Peru's prioritized financial solutions. Key responsibilities also involve programmatic and operational management, such as coordinating and monitoring procurement processes, managing services for providers and consultants, drafting Terms of Reference, tracking progress, and reviewing deliverables. The role supports the creation of communication materials for the portfolio and contributes to knowledge management by documenting lessons learned and best practices. Furthermore, the Associate will facilitate effective institutional coordination with project counterparts, partners, and other UNDP units, and assist in identifying potential working alliances. The position operates under the supervision of the National Coordinator for the Biodiversity Project Portfolio, ensuring the proper execution of project activities to achieve established goals.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in environmental, biodiversity, or natural resource issues is required with secondary education, or 4 years with a Bachelor's degree. This includes at least 4 years in developing, reviewing, or analyzing regulations, strategies, and plans for the Peruvian State. Desirable experience includes at least 3 years working with state institutions, 3 years on indigenous peoples, interculturality, or human rights, and experience in desertification, carbon, REDD+, biodiversity credits, or the UN System.

Technical skills include knowledge of nature-positive economy, biodiversity finance, environmental governance (multilateral agreements), systemic thinking, and robust monitoring and evaluation. Client satisfaction, knowledge generation, and event planning/execution are also key. Proficiency in Spanish is required, intermediate English is desirable, along with intermediate Microsoft Office suite skills.
