The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Türkiye, within its Climate Change and Environment Portfolio, is implementing a project focused on the environmentally sound management of earthquake debris and hazardous waste in Adıyaman. This initiative aims to address the unprecedented challenges posed by the devastating earthquakes of February 2023, supporting Türkiye's recovery agenda and advancing Sustainable Development Goals.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate will provide full-time support to the Project Manager for the day-to-day implementation of the "Environmentally Sound Management of Earthquake Debris and Safe Disposal of Hazardous Waste in Adıyaman" project. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and timely execution of project activities, including planning, reporting, and stakeholder engagement. The associate will assist in managing project logistics, administrative tasks, budget control, and procurement processes. By supporting the project's operational aspects, the Project Associate contributes directly to mitigating health and environmental risks associated with demolition waste and advancing circular economy principles in post-earthquake reconstruction efforts in Adıyaman, ultimately supporting Türkiye's recovery and SDG advancement.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate will support project planning, including the preparation and revision of Annual Work Plans (AWPs) and procurement plans, and assist in budget formulation. Key responsibilities include providing administrative and logistical support for project activities such as trainings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations. The role involves managing project expenditures, controlling equipment usage, and maintaining project documentation and archives. The associate will liaise with project experts and consultants, coordinate implementation with partners, and organize project events and meetings. Additionally, they will monitor contractor performance, identify implementation bottlenecks, and prepare inputs for progress reports (monthly, quarterly, donor, final). The role also includes assisting in procurement processes, evaluating bids, and ensuring contractor deliverables align with project terms of reference.
Work Experience
Experience in environmental, climate change, or waste management projects is required. Project cycle management experience is also necessary. Desired experience includes working with public institutions, municipalities, civil society, academia, or donors; coordinating consultants; organizing events; supporting project monitoring and reporting; and managing project budgets and procurement.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications. Experience in environmental, climate change, or waste management projects. Experience in project cycle management. Experience coordinating with diverse stakeholders (public institutions, NGOs, academia, donors). Experience organizing and coordinating events. Experience in project monitoring, reporting, budget tracking, and procurement processes. Excellent written and spoken Turkish and English communication skills.
