Intern - Project And Engineering Support
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) operates globally to eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities. In Lao PDR, the Crisis Resilience unit focuses on strengthening resilience to climate change and disasters, promoting sustainable resource management, and advancing inclusive development. This internship supports the Natural Resources Management, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Reduction unit, aligning with the Country Programme Document.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Natural Resources Management, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Reduction (NRM, CC & DRR) Unit in UNDP Lao PDR. The role will contribute to strategic needs and communication activities, particularly for the "Strengthening Disaster Response through the Establishment of Evacuation Shelter" project. The intern will assist in enhancing community resilience by supporting the construction of inclusive evacuation shelters and other disaster-related initiatives. Key contributions include technical support for disaster risk reduction, promoting project visibility, and improving overall project results through diligent monitoring, reporting, and communication efforts within the unit.
Responsibilities
Technical review and monitoring of the Evacuation Shelter (ES) project, including supporting construction quality monitoring, reviewing progress reports, and providing technical feedback. This involves participating in spot checks, drafting reports, managing photographic documentation, and supporting the development of Operation and Maintenance Plans. Additionally, the role includes preparing internal communication materials such as meeting minutes and progress updates. The intern will also provide visibility and communication support for DRR initiatives, assisting with the implementation of communication plans, developing communication materials (brochures, infographics, videos), drafting content for press releases and social media, and coordinating with stakeholders to gather success stories and visual materials. Technical support for multimedia production, including video editing and graphic design, is also a key responsibility.
Work Experience
Prior experience in architectural design is desirable. Experience in digital systems, content creation, or event organization is considered an asset. Familiarity with environmental issues, particularly disaster risk reduction, is also advantageous.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is required. Experience with web-based management systems, engineering systems, and graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe) is advantageous. Strong analytical skills for data gathering and research. Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork abilities. Proactive, self-driven, and goal-oriented mindset. Adaptability to diverse cultural environments.
