Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to significantly contribute to the 'Strengthening Capacities for Economic Impulse and SDG Implementation' project, a key collaboration between the Government of Mexico and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The Associate will be instrumental in enhancing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' (SRE) capabilities to effectively position Mexico's economic interests on the international stage. This involves a concerted effort to strengthen Mexico's economic diplomacy, actively attract foreign investment, promote international trade, and foster strategic dialogue with a diverse range of stakeholders, including international actors, federal agencies, state governments, and business organizations. The role is crucial for the successful implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Promotion Plan, which encompasses organizing outbound and inbound trade missions, facilitating Mexico's participation in international fairs, identifying and channeling opportunities for supply and investment, and coordinating vital investment and export seminars. Ultimately, this position aims to robustly bolster the SRE's institutional alliances and provide essential support for Mexico's strategic economic priorities within an evolving and reconfiguring global economic landscape.
Responsibilities
The Associate will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties aimed at bolstering Mexico's international economic engagement. A core function involves the meticulous drafting of legal opinions and analytical notes pertaining to international economic agreements, memoranda of understanding, joint declarations, and other pertinent instruments. This includes actively monitoring and providing follow-up on the negotiation, subscription, and implementation processes of these international instruments, ensuring the seamless integration of information and observations from all relevant competent areas. The role also mandates conducting in-depth legal and regulatory research across critical domains such as international trade, foreign investment, economic cooperation, and other subjects intrinsically linked to the broader scope of economic diplomacy. Furthermore, the Associate will be tasked with preparing essential support documentation, including concise informative briefs, detailed comparative tables, well-reasoned argumentative lines, and other materials vital for high-level meetings, official visits, and various international economic mechanisms. A significant responsibility also entails supporting robust inter-institutional coordination efforts, which includes facilitating the efficient collection and systematic organization of critical information, as well as diligently tracking and ensuring the follow-up on commitments and agreements that emerge from diverse economic meetings and mechanisms, thereby ensuring continuity and accountability.
Work Experience
Candidates with a high school diploma require 6 years of experience in legal, economic, commercial, international cooperation, or related fields. For candidates holding a first-level university degree (licenciatura), 3 years of experience in the aforementioned areas are required.
Skills
Required: Effective oral and written communication, time management, executive document drafting, legal and regulatory research (national/international sources), organization and planning. Desired: Knowledge of international economics, private sector development, foreign trade or diplomacy, legal instrument drafting, complex legal analysis and information synthesis.
