The Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD), a Global Policy Center, focuses on applied research, policy advisory, and partnerships to advance sustainable development. This role sits within the Crisis and Resilience portfolio of ICPSD.
Job Purpose
The Research Analyst will support the Crisis Resilience portfolio at UNDP's Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD). This role is crucial for implementing project activities through rigorous research, data analysis, and the development of analytical inputs. The Analyst will contribute to policy research outputs, knowledge products, and programmatic materials by conducting desk research, synthesizing evidence, and generating data-driven insights. Furthermore, the position will support cooperation, donor mobilization, and provide technical advisory services to various UNDP units, including Country Offices and Regional Bureaus, enhancing the center's capacity to address development challenges in crisis-affected contexts.
Responsibilities
The Research Analyst will provide quantitative analysis and econometric support, including data cleaning, analysis of socio-economic and conflict datasets using statistical methods (Excel, Python, R, Stata), and developing visual outputs. Responsibilities include conducting economic research and policy analysis on fragile and conflict-affected contexts, assessing market systems, livelihoods, and private sector dynamics, and identifying economic drivers of conflict. The role also involves technical assistance and research on migration and economic integration, supporting programs for migrant integration and analyzing labor market trends. Additionally, the Analyst will conduct value chain research and market analysis to support MSME growth, identify resilience pathways, and draft recommendations for competitiveness and inclusivity. Policy analysis, program support in fragile settings, and knowledge sharing through documenting best practices are also key functions.
Work Experience
Applicants with a Master's degree are not required to have professional work experience. Those with a Bachelor's degree must have a minimum of two years of qualifying experience in economic research focusing on crisis contexts, including conflict, violent extremism, or migration.
Skills
Proficiency in quantitative analysis and econometric support using tools like Excel, Python, R, or Stata. Experience in economic research and policy analysis, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. Skills in value chain research, market analysis, and understanding of private sector development. Ability to conduct research on migration and economic integration. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize data and generate actionable recommendations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
