Communications Analyst
Organizational Context
UNDP Sudan is actively engaged in post-conflict recovery, implementing interventions to support the country's transition to peace. The organization aims to enhance its communications portfolio to reflect the positive impact of its work, position itself as a lead agency, highlight its role to donors, and ensure effective communication with stakeholders. This role operates under the Resident Representative's guidance, collaborating with the Khartoum Communications team and liaising with UNDP HQ and other offices.
Job Purpose
The Communications Analyst is responsible for developing and implementing a Strategic Communications Plan for UNDP Sudan. This role aims to enhance public and media outreach, mobilize political and financial support, and advise Senior Management on all communication matters. The incumbent will work closely with Programme and Operations teams, UN agencies, UNDP regional and HQ communications staff, government officials, local media, subject matter experts, donors, and civil society to ensure the successful execution of UNDP's communications strategy. The purpose is to effectively communicate UNDP's mandate, mission, and impact in Sudan's recovery and development efforts, projecting UNDP as a thought leader and valuable partner.
Responsibilities
The Communications Analyst will lead and supervise the daily work of the Communications Team, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring results-based management. This includes developing and implementing internal and external communication and outreach strategies for Khartoum and across Sudan, conducting needs assessments, and producing various communication materials such as leaflets, fact sheets, and success stories. The role involves advising on integrating communications into program formulations, monitoring and evaluating communication activities, and providing input for partnership and resource mobilization strategies. Additionally, the Analyst will contribute significantly to UNDP's website and social media presence by leading digital communication strategies, creating engaging content, and supporting program teams and senior management with marketing materials. The position also entails leading outreach and public information activities, managing media contacts, and fostering relationships with government officials, donors, and civil society.
Work Experience
A Master's degree holder requires no specific years of experience. With a Bachelor's degree, two years of relevant experience in development, public relations, communications, advocacy, print, broadcast, or new media is needed, preferably within the UN system or a similar international organization. Experience managing communication teams and familiarity with conflict/post-conflict settings are highly desirable. Proficiency in computer software, web-based management systems, digital communication applications, and social media is also desired.
