Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports integrated programmatic, policy, and financing solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Governance, Rule of Law, and Peacebuilding (GRP) Hub, within the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), enhances UNDP's impact on governance and peacebuilding. The SDG Local Action project, a component of the GRP Hub, collaborates with local governments to deliver integrated solutions and improve community lives, with this role supporting the Mayors Challenge in Visakhapatnam.

Job Purpose

The Project Manager will lead the implementation of the Mayors Challenge in Visakhapatnam, supporting the Vizag-Prajamukhi Urban Living Lab (V-PULL) initiative. This role involves developing V-PULL's 10-year vision, monitoring and evaluation framework, and funding strategy under the guidance of the Municipal Commissioner and Margadarshak Group. The Project Manager will engage with senior leadership and external partners, oversee project portfolio development and delivery, coordinate sectoral activities, and act as the primary liaison for V-PULL with community, city, and state-level stakeholders. The purpose is to drive innovation in public service delivery, foster climate resilience, and contribute to achieving SDGs at the local level, ensuring the project's sustainability and impact.

Responsibilities

Lead the implementation of the Mayors Challenge in Visakhapatnam, providing strategic direction and decision-making for the project. This includes liaising with city focal points to secure buy-in, leading strategic planning, execution, and review to meet project targets. The role involves approving and supervising procurement processes, overseeing service providers, and conducting performance reviews. The Project Manager will coordinate project staff, evaluate team performance, and develop proposals for project effectiveness and sustainability, including exit strategies. Additionally, the role requires coordinating with project partners, supporting the V-PULL's growth strategy, managing relationships with academia, NGOs, businesses, and government departments, and identifying procurement and technical support needs. The Project Manager will also explore opportunities for sharing learnings at the global level through webinars and knowledge products, contributing to the broader understanding of SDG implementation.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with a Master's degree, or seven years with a Bachelor's degree, is required. This includes at least two years of experience in the field of environment, WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene), and climate resilience. Demonstrated experience working with local or regional governments in India and project management experience involving stakeholder coordination are also required.
