Organizational Context
The United Nations Department of Integrated Security in Colombia (UNDSS ISW Colombia) supports UN System organizations by providing security services, advice, and accompaniment to facilitate mandate fulfillment. This role supports operational activities of field offices by providing administrative and logistical support for security management functions, ensuring efficient and timely service delivery to offices and personnel.
Job Purpose
The Local Security Assistant (LSA) SIOS, under the general direction of the Chief Security Officer, provides administrative follow-up for operational security management. This includes managing acquisitions, recruitment, missions, systems, archives, and general services. The role supports the efficient functioning of security administration, ensuring timely and effective service to field offices, UNDSS personnel, and the national office in Bogotá. The LSA collaborates with various UN departments and agencies, exchanging information and ensuring consistent service delivery focused on internal and external clients to facilitate the UN's mandate in Colombia.
Responsibilities
Maintain continuous communication with UN System fixed and mobile stations for monitoring and supporting agency missions. Process security clearances for missions in Bogotá and Cundinamarca. Provide initial response to security incidents involving UN personnel and dependents, reporting urgent events to supervisors. Coordinate with UN agencies, security bodies, and relevant entities to ensure support for official missions. Maintain organized records of communications and relevant documentation. Operate communication systems according to established procedures. Contribute to the timely flow of information for decision-making within the UN System in Colombia. Inform the PLU Coordinator about mission developments, incidents, and operational requirements. Prepare and submit assigned technical documents and reports. Support the Security Information and Coordination Unit (SICU) in gathering, analyzing, and systematizing security-related information, including incident data and risk assessments. Utilize data analysis and GIS tools to identify and communicate security trends.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant security experience with a high school diploma, or 2 years with a university degree, is required. Experience should include risk management, crisis and emergency response, security plan preparation, and information analysis.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel). Experience with databases and statistical analysis. Valid driver's license. Experience in operations units, security operations centers, or emergency response centers is desirable. Demonstrated experience in information analysis is desirable. Experience with UN agencies, NGOs, or international organizations in a security capacity is desirable.
