Job Purpose

The Project Manager contributes significantly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 through effective program delivery in areas such as democratic governance, poverty reduction, climate change, sustainable energy, gender equality, health, and crisis response. This position ensures projects are executed with high standards, fostering strong partnerships with government, civil society, and other development partners, and adapting to diverse implementation modalities like NIM and DIM to maximize development impact.
Responsibilities
The Project Manager is responsible for comprehensive results-based project management, encompassing planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. This includes providing overall oversight, managing financial and human resources in compliance with UNDP rules, preparing annual work plans and budgets, and leading the project team with clear targets. The role ensures robust quality assurance processes, proactive risk management, and strict adherence to UNDP's social and environmental safeguards, including zero-tolerance policies for SEA, harassment, and fraud. Furthermore, the Project Manager provides technical oversight and quality assurance across all project outputs, developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with government counterparts, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector. This involves supervising consultants, ensuring synergy with other UNDP programs, and promoting the integration of cross-cutting themes like gender equality, social inclusion, and climate resilience. Key duties also include supporting evidence-based advocacy, policy development, and stakeholder engagement by analyzing project results, ensuring capacity development for partners, providing technical advisory inputs to government, and participating in inter-agency coordination. The manager facilitates knowledge management, communications, and learning through developing high-quality knowledge products, documenting lessons learned, and establishing expert networks. Finally, the role supports resource mobilization and donor relations by identifying diverse funding sources, preparing proposals, and maintaining effective relationships with development partners to scale up project approaches and results.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years (with Master's degree) or 4 years (with Bachelor's degree) of relevant experience in project/programme management within the development sector is required. This includes proven experience in areas such as governance, social protection, climate change, poverty reduction, or crisis recovery. Demonstrated experience in managing project activities, budgets, and work plans, leading teams, and strong results-based reporting is essential. Experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with government and development partners, and influencing policy or building institutional capacity, is also required. Desirable experience includes resource mobilization and adaptive delivery in complex settings.
