The Security Information and Operations Centre (SIOC) operates 24/7 as a central hub for security information and communications within Ukraine, supporting the UN Security Management System. It aims to enhance security awareness, analyze threats, and provide operational support to ensure the safety of UN personnel, premises, and assets. This role, administered by UNDP, is crucial for enabling UN organizations to fulfill their mandates safely.
Job Purpose
The Security Operations Assistant ensures the continuous operation of the 24/7 Security Communications System (SCS) by monitoring communications, maintaining accurate contact and personnel lists, and processing incident data. This role serves as the first point of contact for security issues, issues advisories, and monitors personnel movements. The position is vital for providing timely security information and support to UN personnel, contributing directly to their safety and the successful execution of UN operations in Ukraine amidst a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable environment.
Responsibilities
The Security Operations Assistant is responsible for maintaining effective communications with UN personnel on safety and security matters, including monitoring and verifying the operational status of the Security Communications System (SCS). This involves receiving, transmitting, and relaying security messages. The role also includes monitoring and tracking personnel movements across the country, providing essential security and logistical information for safe travel. Additionally, the assistant provides immediate support during security incidents and emergencies, assists with headcount reporting, and collates/maintains security-related data, including open-source monitoring, personnel lists, and emergency contact details. Production of security-related documents and maintaining shift logs are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required with a secondary education, or 2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree. Experience should be in areas such as client-facing services, emergency response, or information and data management. Prior experience with radio, satellite, or web-based communications, and within UN, I/NGO, or international organizations is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in office software (MS Word, Excel), managing large datasets, data entry, digital awareness and literacy, customer satisfaction/client management, working with evidence and data, data analysis, data collection, security information management, and security incident management/monitoring.
