The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS), based in Amman, supports sustainable development across the region. It focuses on poverty eradication, structural transformation, and crisis resilience. The Amman Regional Hub leads thought leadership, crisis response, and country office support, implementing the Regional Programme for Arab States 2026-2029.
Job Purpose
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Analyst will support the implementation of UNDP's AI Sprint initiative across the Arab States and Africa. This role involves providing substantive support to the Regional Programme's AI components and delivering technical assistance to UNDP Country Offices. The analyst will contribute to research, policy development, and knowledge sharing to ensure ethical, inclusive, and globally aligned AI adoption for sustainable development outcomes. The position is home-based but may require travel and flexibility across time zones.
Responsibilities
The AI Analyst will contribute to the Regional AI work by supporting the Regional Programme's AI components and providing technical assistance to UNDP Country Offices. Key duties include coordinating AI Landscape Assessments (AILA), developing responsible AI governance frameworks, and facilitating AI capacity-building programs. The role also involves supporting AI model development, particularly for Arabic and local languages, and documenting lessons learned. Additionally, the analyst will prepare policy briefs, knowledge products, and concept notes, and support coordination among partners including governments, research institutions, and the private sector.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in AI development, digital innovation, or applied data technologies is required with a Master's degree, or 4 years with a Bachelor's degree. Experience in AI ecosystem assessments, policy design, capacity building, research, stakeholder engagement, AI model development, and AI governance is essential.
