GESI Associate (open To Internal And External Candidates)

NPSA-7
Organizational Context
UNDP Indonesia is a leading UN organization committed to fighting poverty, inequality, and climate change. In Indonesia, it supports ambitious climate commitments like NDC 2.0 and FOLU Net Sink 2030, and a Plastics Circularity Project. The organization emphasizes integrating Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) into these initiatives to ensure effective, equitable, and sustainable outcomes, addressing challenges in subnational implementation and promoting inclusive development pathways.
Job Purpose
The GESI Associate plays a critical role in integrating Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) principles across UNDP Indonesia's CREDDIN and Plastics Circularity Projects. This position is central to ensuring that climate policies, Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) implementation, REDD+ strategies, carbon market development, and plastics circularity interventions are not only effective but also gender-responsive, inclusive, and sensitive to the diverse needs and contributions of marginalized groups, including women, informal workers, and youth. The primary purpose is to enhance project effectiveness, equity, and sustainability by systematically embedding GESI considerations into all stages: design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. The Associate's contribution is vital for accelerating Indonesia's long-term low-carbon and climate-resilient development pathway, fostering high-integrity climate actions, and promoting just and equitable outcomes within waste management and circular economy models, ultimately supporting integrated, lasting solutions for people and the planet.
Responsibilities
The GESI Associate supports project implementation, monitoring, data collection, results tracking, and reporting for both CREDDIN and Plastics Circularity Projects, ensuring compliance with UNDP gender, social inclusion, and safeguards requirements. Key duties include providing technical inputs for GESI integration into REDD+ and NDC implementation, conducting GESI and safeguard reviews of project documents, and advising on gender-responsive monitoring frameworks and data collection methodologies. The role involves facilitating GESI considerations in carbon market mechanisms and plastics circularity activities, ensuring the needs of informal waste workers, women, youth, and marginalized groups are reflected. The Associate also ensures gender-responsive reporting by providing GESI analysis for project reports, board meetings, and donor submissions, tracking gender-related results, and maintaining documentation. Furthermore, the role promotes knowledge building and capacity development on gender-responsive climate action and inclusive plastics circularity through training, knowledge product development, and dissemination of best practices. Finally, the Associate strengthens inclusive partnerships and stakeholder engagement by supporting mapping, facilitating inclusive consultations, and collaborating with government, civil society, and development partners, while upholding GESI principles, human rights, and diversity across all interventions.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in Gender & policy analysis is required with Secondary Education, or 4 years with a Bachelor's Degree. Experience supporting projects with technical expertise in Gender & policy analysis is essential. Desirable experience includes knowledge of Indonesia’s climate change policies, innovative policy-making, environmental issues (REDD+, NDC, Carbon Market), project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and working with UN agencies or international organizations. Solid experience in data collection and analysis, especially in gender and environmental issues, is also an advantage.
