Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development, integrating collective action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Within the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), the Planet Hub promotes nature-based solutions and integrated approaches for environmental portfolios. The UNDP Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) provides methodologies for governments to manage biodiversity finance, engaging over 130 countries.
Job Purpose
This internship role supports the BIOFIN global team within UNDP's Planet Hub, contributing to technical, management, and communication activities. The intern will assist in researching and analyzing BIOFIN's global work, identifying best practices in nature-based finance, and developing knowledge products. The role aims to support the structuring of blended finance instruments and conservation portfolios, contributing to the redirection of global finance towards nature-positive development and the achievement of SDGs. This position offers a practical learning experience in international development finance and environmental sustainability.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the BIOFIN global team by researching and analyzing BIOFIN's country-level work, and reviewing international best practices for nature-based finance solutions. Responsibilities include assisting with the finance sources database, developing guidance materials, and contributing to knowledge products on cross-country analysis and biodiversity conservation financing. The intern will also synthesize research outcomes, support the organization of events and webinars, and maintain documentation. Additional duties involve monitoring BIOFIN developments, maintaining a news coverage database, taking meeting minutes, and assisting with operational tasks such as HR, travel, and events.
Work Experience
Previous related work experience in a national or international entity is an asset. Experience in finance, biodiversity, conservation, ecosystems, or environmental areas is beneficial. Familiarity with communication-related activities and social media platforms is also considered an asset.
