The Environment, Energy, and Resilience Unit tackles complex climate and environmental challenges, focusing on ecosystem conservation, sustainable practices, climate adaptation, clean energy, and environmental governance. This role, based in Mexico City, supports the Unit's project management.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to significantly contribute to the UNDP Mexico's Environment, Energy, and Resilience Unit by supporting and strengthening its project portfolio through strategic alliances and institutional development. The analyst will lead the negotiation, articulation, and design of projects for international funding, particularly from the GEF, ensuring alignment with UNDP's strategic plan and existing initiatives. This position is crucial for the operational coordination and diligent execution of strategic projects, involving oversight of technical consultancies, administrative processes, and event organization. Furthermore, the role involves managing budget execution, ensuring quality assurance, and developing strategic communications related to multilateral environmental agreements. By fostering robust partnerships with governments, civil society, the private sector, and academic institutions, the analyst will enhance UNDP's strategic positioning in critical areas like biodiversity, climate change, and clean energy, ultimately promoting the sustainability, replicability, and scalability of development results. The role also facilitates knowledge management and capacity building, ensuring effective dissemination of project insights.
Responsibilities
The Strategic Alliances and Institutional Strengthening Analyst will diligently contribute to project implementation within the Environment, Energy, and Resilience Unit. Key responsibilities include leading the negotiation, articulation, and design of projects and initiatives for international funding sources like the GEF, focusing on biodiversity, climate change, and energy, ensuring programmatic coherence. The role involves supporting the operational coordination and execution of strategic projects, including monitoring technical consultancies, managing administrative processes, and organizing events, workshops, and missions. The analyst will also lead the preparation, monitoring, and reporting on budget execution and objective fulfillment. Furthermore, responsibilities encompass supporting quality assurance, monitoring, and evaluation processes for Unit projects, alongside strategic communication related to major Multilateral Environmental Agreements. A core duty is to promote and formalize strategic alliances and collaboration agreements with key partners across cooperation agencies, governments, civil society, the private sector, and academia. This includes identifying opportunities for UNDP's strategic positioning and supporting counterparts in environmental areas to ensure project sustainability, transfer, and scalability. Finally, the analyst will facilitate capacity building, knowledge exchange, and promotion by contributing to knowledge networks, establishing platforms, and developing resources for partners.
Work Experience
For candidates with a Master's degree, no prior professional work experience is required. For those with a Bachelor's degree, a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience is essential. This experience should include work in environment, biodiversity, climate change, pollutants, and waste management. Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing technical cooperation programs with international funding, as well as collaborative dialogue and multi-actor alliance building with public, private, and social sector institutions, is also required.
