Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Tunisia is implementing the "TARABOT – Cohésion pour prévenir la violence" project, a third phase focusing on strengthening social cohesion to prevent violent extremism. This initiative aligns with Tunisia's National Strategy to Combat Violent Extremism and Terrorism (2023-2027), emphasizing integrated preventive, social, educational, and cultural approaches. The role of the National Social Cohesion Specialist is crucial for achieving project objectives related to youth inclusion and rehabilitation.

Job Purpose

The National Social Cohesion Specialist will support the effective implementation of the UNDP's "TARABOT" project in Tunisia, focusing on strengthening social cohesion to prevent violent extremism. This role is central to achieving specific project objectives, particularly those concerning the inclusion and resilience of vulnerable youth and the rehabilitation of at-risk youth. The specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor, contributing to national and local activities, managing partnerships, and promoting knowledge sharing. The ultimate aim is to enhance social cohesion, reduce risky behaviors among youth, and support their social reintegration, thereby contributing to a more stable and inclusive society in Tunisia.

Responsibilities

The National Social Cohesion Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation of the TARABOT project activities, focusing on objectives 2 and 3. This includes ensuring project activities are executed according to the annual work plan, both nationally and locally. The role involves active participation in programming and decision-making, monitoring responsible parties, and ensuring financial compliance. The specialist will also produce terms of reference for activities and supervise the Social Cohesion Associate. Key responsibilities include advising and supporting institutional and civil society partners on social cohesion approaches, facilitating inter-ministerial collaboration, and fostering partnerships with various stakeholders. Additionally, the role requires promoting knowledge management, ensuring the quality of programmatic approaches, providing operational advice to partners, and contributing to project reporting and capitalization of lessons learned.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience (with a Master's degree) or 7 years (with a Bachelor's degree) is required. Experience should be in governance, social or community affairs, social development, or international development. Proven experience working with national or international development institutions and experience facilitating partnerships are also necessary.
