Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Papua New Guinea focuses on environmental protection and climate change adaptation, supporting international commitments and sustainable resource management. This role is part of the "Accelerating PNG’s Sustainable Blue Economy" project, which aims to strengthen marine conservation, governance, and sustainable economic activities in key coastal and marine areas, particularly in Bougainville.
Job Purpose
The Community Mobilizer will provide essential technical assistance for the implementation of project activities in target sites within Bougainville. This role is crucial for engaging local government officials and community groups, ensuring their active participation in project initiatives. The position involves facilitating communication between project teams and local stakeholders, assisting with activity organization and reporting, and conducting monitoring and evaluation field visits. The Community Mobilizer will also contribute to work plans and budgets, identify synergy opportunities, and keep the project team informed about local concerns and socio-economic conditions, ensuring effective project execution and alignment with community needs and UNDP's environmental goals.
Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance for project activity implementation at target sites. Engage local government officials and community-based groups to facilitate their involvement in project activities. Assist local entities in organizing and reporting on project activities. Conduct monitoring and evaluation field visits to ensure compliance with UNDP standards and provide feedback to the project team. Contribute to the development of annual work plans and budgets. Identify opportunities for synergies with complementary initiatives and assist in tracking co-financing. Facilitate communication among local communities, government units, businesses, and other stakeholders. Monitor and report on local concerns, priorities, socio-economic conditions, and their impact on the project, advising project team members accordingly. Perform other duties as required for the efficient functioning of the office and the organization.
Work Experience
Master's degree holders are not required to have professional work experience. Bachelor's degree holders must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in marine or natural resources management, blue economy, or business development.
Skills
Proficiency in English and Tok Pisin. Experience with computers, office software (MS Word, Excel), and web-based management systems. Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages. Experience in community development and civic engagement. Ability to write reports and analytical documents. Experience organizing and delivering trainings and workshops. Experience working with the private sector.
