Job Purpose
The Economist Intern will support the UNDP Philippines Country Office in its mission to provide evidence-based policy advice and economic analysis. This role is crucial for strengthening frameworks related to sustainable development, disaster risk reduction, and climate change. The intern will assist in gathering and analyzing data, preparing materials for engagements with government counterparts and development partners, and supporting the organization of public policy dialogues. By contributing to these activities, the intern will help shape inclusive and sustainable development initiatives, aligning with the UNDP's commitment to leaving no one behind and stamping out inequality. The position offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in economic analysis within an international development context.
Responsibilities
The Economist Intern will be responsible for supporting economic research and data analysis, including gathering, cleaning, and consolidating macroeconomic, poverty, labor, fiscal, and development finance data. This involves conducting literature reviews and background research for economic briefs and policy notes, and preparing basic analytical inputs like tables and charts. The intern will also provide support for internal and external coordination, assisting with consolidating inputs, preparing briefing materials, and tracking follow-ups. Additionally, the role involves supporting coordination with government counterparts and external partners by aiding in meeting preparation and documentation. A key responsibility is supporting public policy dialogues and knowledge products, which includes assisting in the organization of events, providing logistical support, and preparing drafts and summaries for policy engagements. Ad hoc activities related to economic analysis and policy engagement as requested by the supervisor are also part of the role.
Work Experience
While specific years of experience are not mandated, candidates are expected to possess good analytical skills for data gathering and research. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, is required. Familiarity with collaborative online tools is a plus, or a willingness to learn them. Fluency in English is essential, with Filipino being an advantage.
