Organizational Context
The GEF-funded Circular Solutions to Plastic Pollution Integrated Program, executed by UNDP Morocco in collaboration with UNIDO and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, aims to address plastic pollution in the food and beverage sector. This national project is one of 14 child projects globally, focusing on upstream and midstream solutions to promote a circular economy for plastics in Morocco, thereby supporting the country's Blue Economy and Sustainable Development Strategy.
Job Purpose
The National Project Coordinator (Public Policy/Technical/Finance Lead) is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of the "Circular Solutions to Plastic Pollution in Morocco" project. This role provides critical functional inputs in public policy, technical aspects (plastics/POPs), and finance mobilization, ensuring high-quality outputs that align with the global "Plastic Reboot" program. The coordinator will work closely with the Project Manager, other PCU members, and national and international stakeholders to drive the transition towards a circular economy for plastics, mitigate marine pollution, and support Morocco's blue economy objectives. The position is crucial for achieving project outcomes, fostering partnerships, and ensuring effective project management and reporting over its five-year duration.
Responsibilities
The National Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the "Circular Solutions to Plastic Pollution in Morocco" project, providing significant functional inputs in public policy, technical areas (plastics/POPs), or finance mobilization. This includes coordinating with the Project Manager and PCU members to align technical implementation with project management, preparing technical inputs for terms of reference and contractor deliverables, and supporting financial and administrative monitoring by providing technical justifications. The role involves contributing to risk monitoring, facilitating linkages with the Global Child Project for learning and reporting, and promoting the project through stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and partnership building. Additionally, the coordinator will contribute substantive inputs to workplans and ensure monitoring of technical and policy-related project indicators, including GEF core indicators and environmental/social management plans.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience (with a Master's degree) or 7 years (with a Bachelor's degree) is required in fields such as plastics, chemical safety, sustainable industry, or circular economy. Experience in providing technical, public policy, or finance mobilization leadership for donor-funded projects, preferably with UN agencies, is desired.
