Organizational Context

The Human Development Report Office (HDRO) is a unit within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York. Its mission is to advance human development by conducting research, commissioning studies, and advocating for policy changes. HDRO is known for its global Human Development Report and metrics like the Human Development Index, serving as a global standard setter.

Job Purpose

The Research and Partnerships Analyst will contribute to the Human Development Report Office's (HDRO) strategic research and partnerships agenda, supporting work that advances human development analysis. This role is crucial for strengthening HDRO's intellectual, institutional, and financial sustainability by connecting research, partnerships, resource mobilization, and external engagement. The analyst ensures that HDRO's analytical work is informed by diverse expertise, effectively communicated, and positioned for wider uptake and impact. Working under the guidance of the Research and Strategic Partnerships Advisor and direct supervision of the Research & Partnerships Specialist, the analyst will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve HDRO's objectives and produce high-quality knowledge products.

Responsibilities

The role involves contributing to research and intellectual work on human development issues, including data collection, literature reviews, and drafting research notes. The analyst will support the preparation and quality assurance of HDRO publications, conduct background research, and synthesize findings. Responsibilities also include supporting analytical work on human development indicators and datasets. A key aspect is supporting the development and coordination of strategic partnerships to enhance HDRO's visibility and financial sustainability, including managing joint workplans and cooperation arrangements. The analyst will also assist in operationalizing partnership agreements, tracking deliverables, and supporting reporting. Furthermore, the role entails contributing to partnership cultivation and resource mobilization efforts, preparing relevant materials, and supporting fundraising opportunities. Engagement in planning and executing consultations, events, and outreach activities, as well as contributing to communication materials for dissemination, are also core duties.

Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience (with a Master's degree) or 4 years (with a Bachelor's degree) is required. This experience must combine policy-oriented research and analysis with partnership engagement in development, economics, or public policy. Experience working with international organizations, governments, research institutions, or multi-stakeholder partnerships is also necessary.
