Organizational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mexico, through its Environment, Energy, and Resilience Programme, collaborates with the Government of Mexico to implement climate policies. This role supports the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) in executing Mexico's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0, focusing on achieving climate goals aligned with the Paris Agreement and sustainable development priorities.

Job Purpose

This role is crucial for supporting Mexico's implementation of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0, as part of the 'Promesa Climática' initiative. The purpose is to facilitate the development and execution of sectoral strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation. This involves providing technical assistance, coordinating efforts among federal agencies, subnational governments, and key stakeholders, and ensuring coherence between national climate commitments and sectoral planning instruments. The position contributes to building a robust framework for achieving ambitious climate targets, fostering inter-agency collaboration, and advancing Mexico's climate resilience and sustainable development agenda in line with the Paris Agreement.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include developing and implementing sectoral mitigation and adaptation strategies, ensuring alignment with NDC 3.0 targets and modeled trajectories. This involves conducting technical studies, analyzing emissions, and assessing the viability of proposed measures. The role requires managing and coordinating technical efforts among sectoral actors, including organizing dialogue forums and facilitating collaboration with government agencies, the private sector, and civil society. Additionally, responsibilities encompass managing communication channels with sector leads, coordinating regular meetings to track progress, and facilitating knowledge management. The position also involves providing technical assistance for integrating the NDC into planning instruments and generating technical reports on progress, challenges, and proposals. Finally, it includes coordinating the 'Promesa Climática' team's strategic planning and operational execution.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of professional experience in climate change policy, environmental management, or sustainable development is required. Experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and technical analysis related to climate mitigation and adaptation strategies is highly desirable.
