Organizational Context
The UNDP's Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (ICPSD) is a global policy center leveraging the private sector for development. It focuses on areas including Resilience and Crisis Response, supporting sustainable solutions in conflict-affected contexts. This role, Policy Coordinator – Crisis and Resilience, sits within ICPSD's Crisis and Resilience portfolio, reporting to the Deputy Director, leading its activities.
Job Purpose
The Policy Coordinator – Crisis and Resilience leads and manages the ICPSD's Crisis and Resilience portfolio, ensuring alignment with UNDP's strategic objectives to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. This role is crucial for developing and implementing sustainable and durable solutions in conflict and fragile contexts by identifying and promoting private sector-led good practices. The coordinator drives the design and execution of knowledge management activities, including research, toolkit development, and training, while also fostering cooperation, donor mobilization, and providing technical advisory support to UNDP Country Offices and Regional Bureaus. The position aims to strengthen UNDP's capacity as a trusted partner with national and international counterparts, ensuring coordination of sectoral activities with broader country, regional, and global programs, and advocating for organizational goals to advance human development and inclusive growth.
Responsibilities
The Policy Coordinator is responsible for leading the planning and implementation of the Crisis and Resilience portfolio, developing scalable models for crisis response and resilience across sectors, and providing technical oversight for all research and program activities, ensuring alignment with UNDP corporate standards. This includes coordinating high-quality, publishable research reports across the full research cycle, from project design and data collection through analysis, report writing, and dissemination, with a focus on fragile and conflict-affected contexts, and engaging with academic institutions to strengthen the evidence base. The role involves establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government bodies, UN agencies, NGOs, private sector partners, and donors, facilitating operations, participating in coordination forums, and supporting resource mobilization activities. Furthermore, the coordinator designs and oversees the development of knowledge management tools and systems, including AI-assisted platforms, identifies and synthesizes lessons learned, and ensures timely production and dissemination of knowledge products. Finally, the position entails directly supervising staff within the Crisis and Resilience portfolio, fostering their capacity building and technical growth through mentoring and training, and promoting team cohesion and a positive, productive work environment.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years (with Master's degree) or 4 years (with Bachelor's degree) of progressively responsible experience in program/research coordination or analysis is required. This includes experience in program design and technical support in fragile contexts, managing multi-stakeholder research, and writing analytical reports. Desirable experience includes projects in Afghanistan/Horn of Africa, developing AI-assisted tools, designing digital data collection systems, and working with value chain analyses in fragile settings.
