Organizational Context

The Human Development Report Office (HDRO) operates within the UN system to advance human development by promoting innovative ideas, advocating policy changes, and challenging approaches that limit opportunities. It produces the global Human Development Report (HDR) and pioneering metrics like the Human Development Index. This internship is within the Economics, Sustainable Finance, and Growth department, focusing on the 2026 HDR.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to develop emerging talent in human development and global challenges. The intern will support the research team in preparing the 2026 Human Development Report and related products. This involves conducting quantitative and qualitative research, literature reviews, data analysis, and verification of statistical materials. The role contributes to informing policy with evidence and developing high-impact communications. The internship complements academic studies by providing practical experience in research, data handling, and partnership support within a leading UN research office.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist the research team in preparing the 2026 Human Development Report and related products. Key duties include conducting quantitative and qualitative background research, performing literature reviews, and writing research notes. Responsibilities also involve reviewing and verifying statistical materials, supporting data analysis and presentation, and assisting in the identification and preparation of datasets. The intern will also help with fact-checking, proofreading, and supporting research partnership engagements by developing concept notes and tracking action points. Additionally, the role involves supporting the creation of communications materials and providing logistical support for HDRO events.

Work Experience

While not explicitly required, experience working with an international organization or NGO aligned with UNDP's mission is highly desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for collaborating with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams. Familiarity with the Human Development concept is important. Experience with statistical software or open-source programming tools is considered an asset.
