Driver
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cameroon is implementing the Presidential Plan for Reconstruction and Development (PPRD) for the North-West and South-West regions. This plan is part of the National Development Plan 2020-2030, aiming to mitigate the impact of the socio-political and security crisis. The Driver role supports these critical efforts by ensuring reliable transportation and logistical assistance.
Job Purpose
The Driver is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation services for UNDP personnel, officials, and visitors within Cameroon. This role ensures the efficient movement of people and goods, including mail and documents, contributing to the smooth operation of UNDP activities. The Driver also plays a crucial part in maintaining the assigned vehicle, ensuring its proper functioning and cost-effective use through diligent record-keeping and routine maintenance. Additionally, the Driver provides essential administrative support, assisting with tasks such as updating logs, managing vehicle fleet information, and supporting mission logistics, thereby facilitating the overall mission objectives of the UNDP in the region.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to provide secure and reliable driving services for UNDP staff, officials, and visitors, including transportation of mail and documents. This involves ensuring the proper use and day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including timely reporting of repairs, oil changes, and general upkeep. The Driver must maintain accurate daily vehicle logs to track usage for official and approved non-official purposes, contributing to cost-saving measures. Responsibilities also include ensuring the vehicle is equipped with necessary supplies such as insurance, first-aid kits, and spare parts. In the event of an accident, the Driver must take immediate required actions. Furthermore, the role involves assisting with administrative tasks, such as updating fuel logs, reporting on vehicle fleet status, replenishing generator fuel, and supporting the preparation of mission logistics.
Work Experience
Previous working experience in a similar driving position is required. Experience with international NGOs, international organizations, or the United Nations is advantageous. Familiarity with field vehicle use, including communication equipment like VHF/HF radios, and knowledge of road safety and defensive driving procedures are beneficial.
Skills
Communication skills (written and verbal), ability to tailor messages to audiences. Driving proficiency, knowledge of administrative rules and regulations, conscientiousness, efficiency, and results-orientation.
